Time away from work has left me more aware than ever before that the NHS environment is not for me.
When I realised this just this morning I was left feeling more frustrated than ever and completely unsure on my next steps. All I did know was that something had to change, and change fast.
As I’m still at the beginning of my Human Resources course, I’m not ready to move into that field yet.
I like the idea of working a few days a week from home, and I’m sure I could find something that pays far more than my minimum wage NHS pay.
We only have one life and it’s too short to spend our time doing something we don’t want to do. But changing jobs is not the easy, especially in the current climate.
Despite that I really no believe I can get to a place where I’ve got more control over my time and doing something I enjoy.
I’m motivated by the desire to travel, to have time to spend with my daughter, and the funds that mean I’m not living paycheque to paycheque and having to rely on my bank overdraft.
I’m also motivated by the fact that I no longer want to feel, in my early 50s, that my life is going nowhere. I may have plans to move into HR and start a stationery business, but that will take time.
I’ve realised, after a day of feeling slightly desperate, that I need to take action now.
I’ve always been impressed by Ali Abdaal on YouTube, so I watched his recent video entitled: My honest advice to someone who wants financial freedom.
He talks about the fact that you can’t really gain financial freedom working for someone else, which I’ve always know, and that’s the reason I’ve tired to run several small businesses in the past, all without success.
He talks about gaining the knowledge to know what opportunities are out there, and ultimately to discover how you can get from where you are to where you want to be.
He also recommends a number of books, so I’ve ordered one of them already: Million Dollar Weekend by Noah Kagan.
It’s described by The Financial Times as “A lively read that provides a practical step-by-step guide to founding a business and quickly finding product-market fit.”
It feels motivating and a step in the right direction to be researching the field of entrepreneurship a little more. It feels as if I am taking action and moving forward.
Some of the other books recommended are The Millionaire Fastlane by MJ DeMarco, Dotcom Secrets by Russell Brunson, and $100M Offers by Alex Hormozi.
I’ve dug out a Kindle I haven’t used for a few years and might read a couple of these on there rather than forking out the cost of the paperbacks.
I’ve also discovered that Alex Hormozi has a YouTube channel so I plan to watch some of his content on there before committing to buying his book.
To be taking action feels positive, rather than just sitting feeling sorry for myself and complaining that my life is going nowhere.
I might be a little delusion thinking that things can improve, but I’m willing to give it my best shot and see what happens.
