As TikTok is probably my main source of information these days, it will come as no surprise that yet again the platform has served up up some advice that has completely changed the way I work.
After spending a number of weeks researching online business ideas, I decided upon using my knowledge and interest in positive psychology and personal development to create content on a new website designed for this purpose.
The exciting part, and what told me I was making the right decision, was the fact I was quickly able to write eight pages of content ideas along with a list of books I wanted to look at again, and others I needed to add to my reading list.
All great, until it all starts to feel a little overwhelming.
It’s good to plan, and it wouldn’t make sense to start a business without giving any thought to what you are trying to achieve and how you see your route to getting there looking.
The TikTok video acted as a helpful reminder that there can be so much involved in launching a business from brand names and logos to websites and social media handles. It is very easy to feel overwhelmed and unsure where to start.
And sometimes you just need to start rather than wondering where to start, even if that means starting in the middle rather than at the beginning.
Starting gives you momentum and means you are moving forward. You’re off the starting blocks and on the journey.
Spending too long planning can mean you never end up starting, and the benefit of starting rather than stalling is that there are learnings along the way which you won’t make if you haven’t created anything to learn from or develop further.
So today I started writing my first piece of content for the website – a short intro to the purpose of the site, to positive psychology, it’s benefits and criticisms, and what I hoped to achieve with the venture.
It’s felt hugely positive to have made this progress, to have actually started. I’ve written the first page of the next chapter, and now I’ll enjoy the process and see where it takes me.
